The Open Literary School @ NU was founded by Mariya Deykute in Spring of 2019 as part of the Nazarbayev University Writing Center Program. OLS@NU was created as a sister program to the Open Literary School in Almaty, aiming to serve the greater NU community and provide free, open and equitable creative writing instruction in English, Russian and Kazakh to students, staff and NU families.
Drawing on the diverse expertise of creative writers in the Writing Center at NU and sustaining student interest in creative expression and the writing process, the Open Literary School @ NU offers students who are unable to take the creative writing courses offered by the WCP, or students who have completed the courses available and would like to go further, the opportunity to continue their writing practice. Likewise, OLS@NU supports WCS students who are working on a Creative Writing Capstone project, as well as faculty and graduate students interested in creative expression.
